报告题目:Development of Nanocomposites for Energy Applications

Abstract

Many examples have shown importance on control of particle sizes, crystalline phase and orientation, conductive nanostructures in improving performance of electrochemically active materials for energy application. Multifunctional structured nanocomposite materials can play important roles to further improve performance of the electrode materials. However, the synthesis and stability of multifunctional nanocomposites are still challenge. In this presentation, we will discuss some recent advance we made in synthesis of nanocomposite materials and demonstrate some new approaches to obtain multicomponent multifunctional nanocompoistes for energy applications. Examples include high capacity Si anodes and graphene-based polymer nanocomposite electrodes for Li-ion battery, and nanoporous Si for solar fuel applications.

 

Dr. Donghai Wang is currently Associate Professor at Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. Before joining Penn State in 2009, he was a postdoc and subsequently became a staff scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratories where he developed functional materials for catalysis and energy storage techniques. He received a B.S. and Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University and Tulane University in 1997 and 2006, respectively. Dr. Donghai Wang’s research interests have been related to design and synthesis of materials for a variety of applications. His recent research is focused on material development for energy conversion and storage technologies such as fuel cells, batteries and solar cells/fuels. Professor Wang has over 60 publications.
