报告题目:Fluorescent Porous Materials for Chemical Sensing: From Molecular Design to Device Fabrication

报告人简介
      Dan Zhao received his Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University in 2010 under the guidance of Professor Hong-Cai Zhou. After completion of a two-year postdoctoral work at Argonne National Laboratory, he joined National University of Singapore in 2012 as an Assistant Professor. His research interests include advanced porous materials and their applications in storage, separation, sensing, catalysis, and membrane technologies.
 
报告摘要
   Because of its versatility and high sensitivity towards external stimuli, fluorescence has been widely used in various sensing applications. A novel fluorescence emission mechanism called aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has been identified and studied in the past decade. A good example is tetraphenylethene (TPE), a well-known AIE fluorogen in which the olefin stator is surrounded by phenyl rotors and the restriction of intramolecular motion (RIM) is known to account for its strong fluorescence in solid state. AIE-based fluorescence not only avoids the problems caused by aggregation, but also provides new approaches based on turn-on mode in the applications of chemical sensors, biological probes, and solid-state emitters.
      In this talk, I will introduce our group’s work on fluorescent porous materials for chemical sensing. We have prepared a series of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and porous organic frameworks (POFs) containing TPE units serving as molecular antenna for the chemical sensing of small molecules such as volatile organic compounds and metal ions.
